The term “Loong” means Dragon, “Fu” means Tiger, and “Pai” refers to Style or group. One of the chambers in the Shaolin Temple was known as “LOONG FU TANG,” meaning “DRAGON & TIGER CHAMBER.” The style’s techniques are based on five Shaolin animals: Loong (Dragon) for speed, Fu (Tiger) for swift total body movements, Par (Leopard) for agility, Sher (Snake) for fluidity, and Park Hock (Crane) for calmness.
Founder
The founder of Loong Fu Pai Martial Arts, Grandmaster Terry Lim, started his martial arts journey in Penang, Malaysia, in 1956 with Combat Judo (Jujitsu) in his brother’s police unit under Master Jacky Ooi. He later varied and specialized his training with Shihan Francis Ramasamy in Aikido (Mushindo) and also joined and trained with Master Ang Ah Hock in Hokkien Shaolin.
His training continued in Australia, where he joined the Chinese Youth Society of Melbourne, learning Hung Kah Kung Fu under Sifu Albert Lau. He later joined San Chi Kai Karate under the guidance of Shihan Malcolm Lomax, who awarded him the Shodan (Black Belt) rank.
In the following years, Master Lim cross-trained with various Karate and Kung Fu styles to gain varied experience, including weapon work with the Melbourne Kendo Club under Sensei Nagai.
On the 13th of January 1981, Master Terry Lim founded Loong Fu Pai Martial Arts, a unique freestyle combination of all the knowledge he had acquired over a period of 25 years. Loong Fu Pai has expanded rapidly throughout Victoria and is considered a family club with national success in Kung Fu, Karate, and Kickboxing.
In recognition of his remarkable achievements, Kancho Terry Lim was awarded a 7th Dan world ranking and a Gold Card Holder of the World Kumite Association (WKO) on 9th February 2015.
